Dear Dr. Suzy,

Q. When it comes to energy, I always seem to have an empty tank.  What can I do to become more balanced?

A. In my daily life, I personally try to concentrate on the principle of “energy balance,” which is the balance between the intake of energy from different sources (your energy input) and the exertion of physical energy (your energy output).

For example, from a nutritional standpoint, an abnormal amount of excess bodyfat is often a sign or indicator from your body, a signal telling you that you are taking in more than your body needs to function, or that you are not obtaining enough exercise and activity in your daily lifestyle.

Fortunately, when you take care of your body and establish the proper balance between eating the proper amounts and types of food, and getting the right amount of exercise, it will help you discover the realistic positive body image that is healthy for you. This is much more important than trying to adhere to a magic number recommended by generalized weight and bodyfat percentage charts. What is important is that you treat your body with respect, and that you maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

In addition, your mind and body coexist in a flowing yin-yang type relationship. Your conscious and subconscious thoughts constantly affect the physical state of your body. Conversely, the signals from your body, including physical pain, pleasure, and discomfort, have a direct effect on your mind and emotional state. Therefore, an imbalance in one naturally creates an imbalance in the other. We've all been around people who are energy drainers and others who are energizing to be around.  This principle applies to many aspects of our daily lives without us being consciously aware of it.

Since true health and healing cannot be achieved unless there is a healthy balance between the Pure Life Triune of mind, body, and spirit, it is crucial for all of us to spend time engaging in activities, such as exercise, meditation, and deep breathing, that merge physical and mental energies simultaneously. Those who do achieve this state of holistic fusion usually find that respecting and loving their physical body, just as it is, is a natural result of spending time strengthening the Pure Life Triune connection.

Your body is a miraculous, hard working masterpiece that should be loved, honored, and treated with respect. It is much more than simply a machine or the vehicle that carries you along on your journey through life. Listen to it and you may find that becoming more balanced and energetic is easier than you thought.
